About the role The Gem Hotel is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Cook to join our kitchen team on a casual basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic hospitality environment at our venue The Gem. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality meals to our guests, contributing to the overall dining experience and reputation of The Gem Hotel.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare, cook and present dishes according to established recipes and plating standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of cooking stations and kitchen equipment
- Follow food safety and hygiene protocols consistently
- Manage cooking times to ensure timely delivery of meals during service
- Assist with food preparation, including chopping, marinating and portioning ingredients
- Respond to feedback from the kitchen team and management to improve service quality
- Support the kitchen team in meeting daily meal requirements and special requests
- Monitor stock levels and report any shortages to supervisory staff
- Maintain awareness of menu offerings and special dietary requirements

What we're looking for

- Proven experience working as a Cook in a busy hospitality or restaurant setting
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods
- Understanding of food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak service times




- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods
- Reliable and punctual with a positive attitude towards work
- Relevant qualifications such as a Hospitality or Culinary certificate would be advantageous
- Knowledge of dietary requirements and allergen awareness is valued
