The Field Services Engineer (Mechanical & Liquid Cooling / Rack & Stack) is responsible for on-site deployment, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and rapid-response field repairs of high-density AI infrastructure. Operating across GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) environments and hyperscale data centres, this role focuses on high-density liquid-cooled rack architectures compliant with NVIDIA Reference Architectures (e.g., NVIDIA HGX, DGX SuperPOD, NVLink Rack-Scale Systems).

This role bridges high-density hardware integration, direct-to-chip (DTC) liquid cooling loops, Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), and accurate physical rack and stack operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical & Liquid Cooling Operations (Mandatory)

- Thermal System Maintenance: Perform installation, commissioning, fluid charging, flushing, and pressure testing for Direct-to-Chip (DTC) cooling loops, secondary fluid loops (TCS), manifolds, and quick-disconnect (QD) couplings.
- CDU & Heat Exchanger Management: Servicing Row/Rack Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), in-row coolers, and Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx). Monitor supply/return temperatures, pressure differentials, and flow rates against NVIDIA thermal specifications.
- Coolant Quality & Chemistry: Conduct routine fluid sampling, conductivity testing, filtration, and glycol/deionized water chemistry balancing to prevent corrosion and biofouling in liquid-cooled GPU racks.
- Leak Detection & Mitigation: Inspect leak detection sensing cables, inspect seals, and execute containment protocols for active fluid leaks without interrupting adjacent compute nodes.

2. Rack & Stack & Physical Infrastructure

- Physical Integration: Unbox, position, anchor, and physically install high-density GPU chassis (e.g., NVIDIA HGX/DGX nodes), NVSwitch trays, power shelves, and heavy-duty 42U–52U EIA-310 standard racks.
- Structured Cabling & Cable Management: Execute high-density fiber and copper cable routing (Active Optical Cables/AOC, Direct Attach Copper/DAC, NVLink, and InfiniBand) maintaining strict bend radius limits, airflow clearances, and color-coded labeling standards.
- Power Distribution: Connect high-density 3-phase rack Power Distribution Units (rPDUs), busways, and redundant power supplies (30kW–100kW+ per rack) ensuring phase balancing and load distribution.

Qualifications

- Education: Technical diploma, Associate's, or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC/R Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Experience: 3+ years in data canter field service, critical facilities maintenance, HPC environments, or heavy industrial mechanical engineering.
- Liquid Cooling Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on experience with liquid cooling infrastructure (CDUs, manifolds, braided hoses, dry-break quick disconnects, dielectric fluids, or water/glycol mixtures).
- Hardware Competency: Experience with enterprise server installation, high-density rack assembly, and structural hardware mounting (handling equipment >50–100 lbs safely).
- Tooling Proficiency: Skilled with torque wrenches, mechanical pipe fitting tools, fluid pumps, vacuum purge kits, refractometers, multimeter electrical testers, and optical fiber clean/inspect kits.
