Coming from architectural practice, I remember taking over a mixed-use residential project late in the process when things had started to go pear-shaped.

The architecture itself was strong. The problem was that accessibility had become a late-stage compliance exercise rather than something considered as part of the design.

Adaptable apartments needed to be reconfigured, circulation was affected and elements of the design had to be revisited that could have been resolved much earlier.

It made me realise how valuable a good access consultant can be when they are involved early — working with the design team rather than simply telling them what they can't do.

That is the approach behind this opportunity.

I'm recruiting for a specialist leading built-environment consultancy that works with architects, developers, engineers and builders on accessibility, compliance and certification across a broad range of Class 2 – 9 projects.

They are looking for an Access / DDA Consultant, with the opportunity suited to someone developing their career in the sector as well as an experienced consultant looking for their next move.

Could This Be You?

- Architect / Architectural Professional

If you've spent time producing and coordinating documentation, resolving design issues and working with consultants, you already have many of the skills needed to become a good access consultant. You don't need to know every aspect of DDA consulting on day one. The technical knowledge around the NCC, DDA and AS 1428 suite can be developed with the support of experienced consultants.
- Construction / Project Professional

Your understanding of how buildings are actually delivered can be incredibly valuable in access consulting. Experience in construction management, project management, design coordination or building consultancy means you already understand drawings, constructability, coordination and the realities of delivering a project.





This is an opportunity to take that experience into a specialist technical consulting discipline, without starting your career again from scratch.

- Experienced DDA / Access Consultant

If you're already working in DDA or access consulting, I'd also be interested in speaking with you. You may be looking for greater responsibility, more involvement with design teams, exposure to more complex projects or simply a change from your current environment.

The role can be tailored around your existing technical knowledge, project experience and level of responsibility, with salary expectations adjusted accordingly.

What You'll Learn & Do:

For someone developing their career in the sector, you'll work alongside experienced access consultants and build your technical knowledge across areas including:

- Reviewing architectural drawings and documentation for accessibility requirements.
- Learning to interpret and apply the NCC, DDA and AS 1428 suite.
- Assisting with accessibility reports and technical advice.
- Working directly with architects, engineers, builders and project teams.
- Attending project meetings and site inspections.
- Identifying potential accessibility issues early in the design process.
- Helping develop practical solutions that work from both a compliance and construction perspective.
- Taking on greater responsibility for projects as your knowledge and experience develops.
- For experienced consultants, the level of responsibility will be aligned with your existing capability and project experience.

What They're Looking For: You don't need to know everything about DDA consulting on day one.

What you do need is:





- A good understanding of how buildings are designed and delivered.
- The ability to read and interpret architectural drawings.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
