Role Overview The Victoria University Disability Governance Committee is a formally constituted committee of Council with particular responsibility for providing Council with independent oversight of, and advice on, the University’s participation in the Australian Government’s Disability Support Fund grants,



including the use of grant funding and the University’s strategies for the inclusion of students and staff with disability. Your insights and leadership will contribute to shaping the future of our institution.

Committee Functions Include

- Oversee and provide advice to the University on the use of grants made under the Disability Support Fund, including ensuring that grant amounts are spent only on activities permitted under the Guidelines and within applicable spending limits
- Oversee the University’s annual performance report and acquittal report to the Department on the activities funded by the grant
- Oversee and provide advice on the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the Disability Action Plan, including key performance indicators and any action to correct underperformance
- ensure the Disability Education Inclusion Strategy, and the Disability workforce inclusion strategy is developed in consultation with people with disability, including students and staff with disability and staff who directly support students with disability, and is kept up to date and published on the University’s website

Primary Skills Requirement and Qualifications

We seek an independent member who is not enrolled with, employed by,



or otherwise engaged by the University in a paid or unpaid capacity and who can demonstrate a combination of:

1. lived experience of disability and/or expertise in disability inclusion;
2. governance, policy or strategic planning experience;
3. higher education, student experience or workforce expertise;
4. cultural capability and commitment to equity and inclusion; and
5. capacity to contribute constructively to Committee deliberations.

The Committee will seek diversity of disability experience, backgrounds and perspectives.

Remuneration and Commitments

Committee Members receive remuneration in accordance with State Government Guidelines.

Commitments include three Committee meetings annually. The Chair may call special meetings as required.
