Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated Early Childhood Centre Cook to join our team in Katherine, Northern Territory. This temporary full-time role is essential for providing nutritious and balanced meals for children in our care, ensuring their dietary needs are met while promoting healthy eating habits. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking and a commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for young children.

The Opportunity:

As the Early Childhood Cook, you will be responsible for planning, preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children aged 0-5 years in accordance with the Australian Dietary Guidelines, food safety requirements and our centre philosophy.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating healthy meals, has a passion for children’s wellbeing and takes pride in maintaining high standards of food safety and kitchen management.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with approved menus and dietary guidelines.
- Cater for individual dietary requirements, allergies, cultural preferences and medical needs.
- Develop seasonal menus in consultation with Centre Management.
- Maintain food preparation, storage and kitchen areas in line with Food Safety Standards.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels and food ordering within budget requirements.
- Ensure accurate food temperature monitoring and kitchen record keeping.
- Maintain a clean, organized and compliant kitchen environment.
- Promote healthy eating practices and positive mealtime experiences for children.
- Work collaboratively with educators,



children and families to support children’s health and wellbeing.

Qualifications and Experience

- Previous experience as a Cook, preferably within a childcare, school, aged care or hospitality setting.
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent (desirable but not essential)
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Knowledge of nutrition requirements for young children.
- Strong understanding of food handling, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and manage kitchen operations effectively.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
