We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistant (SNEA) for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant at West Morley PS, you play a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning, developmental and behavioural needs to access and engage successfully in their education. Working collaboratively with teachers and allied professionals, you assist in implementing individualised learning programs, fostering student independence, communication and social development, and creating inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.

The role requires a commitment to supporting students with a range of additional needs, including autism, intellectual disability, physical disability,



sensory impairments and complex behaviours. Education Assistants should work flexibly with individual students, small groups and whole-class settings, providing targeted support while promoting student participation and achievement.

Suitable applicants ideally display strong teamwork, positive relationships with students and colleagues, and an understanding of evidence-based practices such as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Classroom Management Strategies (CMS), and the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems. They contribute to a caring and collaborative school culture while supporting every student to reach their personal best.

Eligibility

To work with us, you must:

- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
