Fire Technician – Marine / Suppression /Defence

? Cairns | Whitsundays | Darwin | Northern Australia ? Attractive Wage + Overtime + Remote Allowances

? Marine | Defence | Remote Work | Career Progression

Trinity Fire Services is a locally owned and operated fire protection company specialising in marine, defence, commercial and special hazards fire systems throughout Northern Australia.

Due to an unexpected change in circumstances requiring one of our team members to take an extended period of leave, we have an immediate opportunity for a qualified electrician to join our Cairns team on an initial six-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension.

Former ADF electricians are strongly encouraged to apply.

If you've transitioned from the Navy, Army or Air Force and are looking for a technical role where your electrical trade, fault-finding ability and Defence experience will be valued, we'd particularly like to hear from you.

About the Role

This is not a standard electrical or metro service role. Our technicians work across unique environments throughout Northern Australia, including:

- Marine fire systems
- Superyachts and commercial vessels
- Defence vessels and projects
- Fire detection and alarm systems
- Emergency and exit lighting
- Fire suppression and special hazard systems
- Gas detection equipment
- Portable fire extinguishers
- Fire hose reels and associated fire equipment
- Remote regional service runs throughout Far North Queensland, Cape York, Torres Strait, the Whitsundays and Darwin

Your duties may include:

- Inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection equipment
- Electrical and fire system fault finding and rectification
- Servicing detection, alarm and suppression systems

- Servicing portable fire equipment, including extinguishers and hose reels
- Vessel, Defence and remote site attendance
- Preparation of service documentation and compliance records
- Working independently and as part of a team

There are opportunities for travel, specialised systems work, OEM training and ongoing technical development. Training will be provided in areas of fire protection where you don't already have experience.

About You

You'll need to be a qualified electrician with the appropriate electrical licence and, importantly, be willing to work across the broader fire protection industry rather than in an electrical-only position. We're particularly interested in someone who:

- Has previous ADF experience – Navy, Army or Air Force
- Is already based in Cairns or the surrounding region
- Has strong electrical fault-finding and practical problem-solving skills
- Is motivated, adaptable and willing to learn
- Takes pride in doing work properly and documenting it properly
- Is comfortable working aboard vessels and within Defence and marine environments
- Is willing to learn specialist fire protection and suppression systems
- Is happy to work across the full scope of fire servicing, including portable extinguishers and hose reels
- Is willing to undertake remote regional work and travel when required

- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Holds a current driver's licence

Previous experience in fire protection, marine, detection, suppression or special hazards systems would be highly regarded, but is not essential for the right person.

What We Offer

- Attractive remuneration based on experience and capability
- Overtime opportunities
- Work from home allowances
- Full-time, six-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension
- Cairns-based position with work throughout Northern Australia
- Early knock-off Fridays
- Interesting and varied technical work
- Exposure to marine and Defence projects
- Ongoing training and development
- Opportunities for OEM and specialist technical training
- The opportunity to develop skills well beyond a traditional electrical role
- Supportive, locally owned and operated business

A Genuinely Multi-Skilled Role

While your electrical qualification will be an important part of your role, our technicians work across the full range of fire protection equipment. Some days may involve electrical fault finding, detection or specialist suppression systems. Others may involve servicing extinguishers, hose reels and other portable fire equipment. You may be working locally in Cairns one week and attending a vessel or remote service run elsewhere in Northern Australia the next.

If you're looking for an electrical-only position, this probably won't be the right role.

However, if you're looking for variety, travel, technical development and the opportunity to build specialist skills while working across the Marine and Defence sectors, we'd love to hear from you.
