About the role
As a SeniorPrincipal Registration Officer and a key member of the Building andDevelopment Certifier Registration team, you willmanage a diverse range of responsibilities, with a primary focus on theassessment of various and complex registration applications of registeredcertifiers and administration of the public register of registered certifiersin line with the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 (the Act),and other associated Acts and regulations to support and deliver optimumcustomer and business outcomes.
You will also havethe opportunity to contribute to industry engagement, process improvement andteam capability uplift, helping to strengthen how certifier registrationservices are delivered and provide essential operational support.
This role mayinclude direct reports and will suit someone who enjoys leading throughinfluence, supporting others and driving practical improvements in a complexregulatory environment.
In this role, you will:
- Assess and determine applications for registration as a certifier in NSW, applying sound judgement to complex knowledge, skills and experience requirements.
- Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders to support clear, consistent and practical regulatory outcomes.
- Advise senior leaders on strategies that support compliance objectives, business planning and performance improvement.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and customer-focused service delivery.
- Manage competing priorities and respond to complex or escalated matters within strict statutory timeframes.
- Support team management by contributing to compliance, governance, quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
- Develop practical procedures, guidance and training materials that enhance team capability, consistency and confidence.
We are looking for someone who can bring:
- Robust critical thinking, problem-solving skills and resilience when working through complex or sensitive matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and formats.
- Sound judgement and confidence making balanced decisions within a broader regulatory context.
- A strong customer service mindset, ideally developed in a licensing, registration or regulatory environment.
- Proven leadership and collaboration skills, including the ability to coach, motivate and mentor others.
- Practical experience interpreting and applying legislation across one or more regulatory frameworks.
- Experience developing or using standard operating procedures, guidance material or supporting documentation to improve business processes.
- Knowledge or experience in Building Inspector, Building Surveyor or Engineer classes, which would be highly regarded.
- A proactive, adaptable approach and willingness to support urgent priorities beyond core responsibilities when needed.
- Experience using systems such as Loris and Objective is highly desirable.
We support a hybridworking model, utilising flexible working arrangements. The role is primarilyoffice-based,
with flexibility available in line with business needs.
