Our Client is a farming business situated in Munglinup, Western Australia. We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Agricultural and Horticultural Mobile Plant Operator to operate and maintain agricultural machinery used in our broadacre farming operations.

n

The successful applicant will be responsible for operating tractor-drawn and self-propelled agricultural plant and equipment throughout the cropping cycle, including land preparation, seeding, fertilising, spraying, cultivation and harvesting.

Responsibilities

n

n
- Operate agricultural mobile plant and machinery safely, efficiently and in accordance with farm operating procedures.
n
- Prepare, position and set up agricultural plant and machinery for daily operations.
n
- Operate tractor-drawn and self-propelled machinery used for land preparation, seeding, fertilising, spraying, cultivation and harvesting.
n
- Monitor machinery operation and performance to achieve accurate and efficient field operations while minimising crop damage.
n
- Inspect machinery and equipment before, during and after operation to ensure it remains safe and serviceable.
n
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and minor repairs to agricultural plant and machinery.
n
- Identify mechanical or operational faults and report issues requiring further repair or maintenance.
n
- Maintain accurate operational, production, machinery and maintenance records.
n
- Follow workplace health and safety, chemical handling, biosecurity and environmental procedures.
n
- Assist with the productive movement, preparation and changeover of agricultural machinery and attachments according to seasonal farming requirements.

Tasks

n

n
- The duties of the position will include, but are not limited to:
n
- Preparing and positioning agricultural plant and machinery for operation.
n
- Driving and manoeuvring tractors, harvesters, sprayers and other agricultural mobile plant in paddocks and around the farm.
n
- Operating tractor-drawn and self-propelled plant to plough and otherwise prepare and cultivate land.
n
- Operating seeding and planting equipment to sow crops at the required depth, spacing and application rate.
n
- Operating agricultural machinery to apply fertilisers and other crop inputs at specified rates.
n
- Operating spraying equipment for crop protection activities where appropriately trained, authorised and licensed.
n
- Operating harvesters and associated machinery to harvest crops efficiently and minimise crop loss or damage.
n
- Selecting, fitting, removing and changing agricultural machinery attachments and implements.
n
- Calibrating and monitoring agricultural plant and equipment to ensure accurate application,



distribution and collection rates.
n
- Adjusting the speed, height and depth of implements according to crop, soil, paddock and operating conditions.
n
- Adjusting machinery settings and controls to maintain efficient operation and avoid unnecessary damage to crops.
n
- Monitoring plant operation directly and through machinery instruments, displays, gauges, GPS and other onboard systems.
n
- Checking fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, coolant, tyres, belts, bearings, filters and other machinery components as required.
n
- Cleaning machinery and equipment and completing routine preventative maintenance.
n
- Lubricating and servicing plant and machinery in accordance with manufacturer and farm maintenance schedules.
n
- Diagnosing basic mechanical and operational problems and carrying out minor repairs where appropriate.
n
- Reporting mechanical faults, breakdowns and maintenance requirements that require specialist repair.
n
- Maintaining records of machinery operation, hours, fuel use, maintenance, field activities and production as required.
n
- Completing work and production reports.
n
- Moving machinery and equipment between paddocks and work areas safely.
n
- Following operating instructions, farm procedures and manufacturer specifications when using agricultural plant.
n
- Complying with workplace health and safety requirements and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
n
- Maintaining machinery and work areas in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
n

Qualifications

n

Applicants must have a level of skill consistent with ANZSCO 721111 – Agricultural and Horticultural Mobile Plant Operator, Skill Level 4, which in Australia is generally demonstrated by:

n

n
- AQF Certificate II or AQF Certificate III in a relevant field; OR
n
- At least one year of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
n
- In some circumstances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to a formal qualification.
n
- Applicants must also hold any licences, registrations, permits or accreditations legally required for the particular machinery, vehicles or agricultural activities they are required to undertake.
n
- A current Australian driver's licence, or the ability to obtain an appropriate licence where required for the position, is desirable.
n

Skills

The successful applicant should demonstrate:

- Competence in operating tractor-drawn and self-propelled agricultural machinery.
n




- Ability to operate tractors, seeding equipment, cultivation equipment, spreaders, sprayers and harvesting machinery relevant to broadacre farming.
n
- Ability to safely prepare, position and set up machinery for field operations.
n
- Ability to select, connect, disconnect and correctly use agricultural implements and attachments.
n
- Knowledge of machinery calibration and the adjustment of application, distribution and collection rates.
n
- Ability to adjust machinery speed, implement height and working depth according to operating conditions.
n
- Ability to monitor machinery performance using gauges, instruments, displays and onboard technology.
n
- Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to identify machinery faults.
n
- Ability to perform routine servicing, preventative maintenance and minor mechanical repairs.
n
- Understanding of safe machinery operation and workplace health and safety requirements.
n
- Ability to follow operating procedures, machinery specifications and instructions.
n
- Ability to maintain accurate work, production and machinery records.
n
- Good organisational and time-management skills, particularly during seeding, spraying and harvest periods.
n
- Ability to work independently and as part of a farming team.
n
- Ability to work safely for extended periods in field conditions and during seasonal peaks.
n
- Sound awareness of crop protection, biosecurity and environmental requirements relevant to machinery operations.

Experience

n

Applicants should have:

n

n
- At least one year of relevant experience operating agricultural and horticultural mobile plant where relevant experience is being relied upon as a substitute for formal AQF qualifications.
n
- Practical experience operating agricultural machinery such as tractors, seeders, cultivation equipment, spreaders, sprayers and/or harvesters.
n
- Experience preparing and positioning machinery for agricultural operations.
n
- Experience adjusting and monitoring machinery settings, including speed, height, working depth and application or collection rates.
n
- Experience undertaking land preparation, seeding, fertilising, crop spraying, cultivation and/or harvesting operations.
n
- Experience completing machinery inspections, routine servicing and preventative maintenance.
n
- Experience identifying mechanical faults and carrying out minor repairs.
n
- Experience maintaining machinery, production and work records.
n
- Experience in broadacre cropping operations in Western Australian conditions will be highly regarded.
n
