FODC Smart Solutions is a specialist contractor based in the Illawarra and Southern Highlands of NSW, delivering fibre optics, data networking, control systems, and electrical services. With over 20 years in the industry, we work across commercial, industrial, roads, and mining sectors throughout the Illawarra and beyond.

About the roles

FODC is seeking to add to its growing team with opportunities for the following:

- Experienced fibre and telecommunications technicians with a background in cable installation, splicing, testing, and network infrastructure, or;
- Electricians seeking to move into fibre optics and telecommunications, with full training provided to develop these skills.

The successful candidates will undertake a combination of fibre and/or electrical works across commercial, industrial, roads, and mine site projects. FODC will provide structured upskilling in any areas not already covered, including network commissioning.

Key responsibilities

- Installation, splicing, testing, and termination of fibre optic cabling
- Cable hauling and installation, indoor and outdoor
- Fault finding and rectification on fibre and data networks
- Electrical works include lighting, road/traffic sign installation, conduits, and pits
- Construction and installation of fibre/electrical enclosures
- Delivery of work on commercial, industrial, roads, and mine site projects
- Interpretation of network diagrams and design documentation
- Testing and certification of installations (OTDR, power meter testing, etc.)




- Safe work practices across a range of environments, including live sites and controlled industrial settings
- Liaison with site supervisors, clients, and other trades

About you

- Experience in cable hauling and installation, indoor and outdoor
- Experience constructing and installing fibre or electrical enclosures
- ACMA Open Registration (or willingness to obtain) — Cabling – Open, Structured Cabling, or relevant endorsements
- Working at heights/EWP competencies
- For electricians, a current electrical licence — training in fibre optics, telecommunications, and network commissioning will be provided, or;
- Experience in fibre optic and telecommunications installation, splicing, and testing
- Experience in commercial, industrial, roads, or mining environments
- Current driver's licence
- Willingness to obtain site-specific inductions and tickets as required (e.g. mining site inductions, traffic control)
- Robust work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Willingness to work at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in varying conditions
- Basic computer literacy, including email, Microsoft Word, and general use of workplace software/apps
