Hobart

About us betr is a fast-growing, high-energy wagering and entertainment business. We're a collaborative team that likes to do things differently – curious, driven people who dive in, learn fast and get involved across the business. As betr continues to scale, a strong and proactive compliance function is central to protecting our customers, our licence to operate, and the business.

About the role The Financial Crime Specialist is a key member of the Compliance team, working closely with the Compliance Manager and Head of Compliance (AMLCO) to manage betr's day-to-day Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) obligations. This is a hands-on role responsible for monitoring customer activity, conducting customer due diligence and investigations, and preparing regulatory reports – helping ensure betr meets its obligations under the AML/CTF Act 2006 and AUSTRAC's regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

- Conduct day-to-day transaction monitoring under betr's Transaction Monitoring Program (TMP), reviewing and investigating alerts for unusual, complex or suspicious customer activity.
- Investigate and action alerts in a timely manner, documenting findings, rationale and outcomes to a standard suitable for internal and regulatory review.
- Escalate high-risk or urgent matters to the Compliance Manager and/or Head of Compliance in line with betr's escalation framework.
- Identify trends or emerging typologies from monitoring activity and feed insights back into scenario tuning and risk assessments.
- Conduct Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (ECDD) reviews for high-risk, Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), and other flagged customers, in accordance with AML/CTF requirements and internal policies.
- Perform risk-based assessments of customer profiles, source of wealth (SOW),

source of funds (SOF) and expected wagering activity.
- Undertake sanctions, PEP, adverse media and other risk-based screening activities.
- Prepare Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs), ensuring reports are well-evidenced and clearly articulated.
- Prepare other AUSTRAC reporting as required (e.g. Threshold Transaction Reports and International Funds Transfer Instruction), where applicable to the business.
- Assist in maintaining and enhancing betr's AML/CTF Program, policies and procedures in line with legislative and regulatory change.

About you

- Experience in an AML/CTF analyst, financial crime or compliance role, ideally within wagering, gaming, financial services or fintech.
- Working knowledge of the AML/CTF Act 2006, AML/CTF Rules, and AUSTRAC reporting obligations (SMR, TTR, IFTI).
- Practical experience with TMP systems, case management tools and CDD/ECDD processes.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills, with sound judgement in assessing risk and escalating appropriately.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, defensible SMRs and investigation notes.
- High level of integrity, discretion and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working autonomously in a small, close-knit compliance team, while collaborating across a quick-paced, high-growth business.

Benefits

- Hobart based with flexible/hybrid working arrangements.
- 25 days of annual leave.
- A friendly, high-energy team culture built on trust, support and respect.
- Competitive remuneration, including participation in betr's Short Term Incentive Program and Employee Recognition initiatives.
- Genuine career development and growth opportunities as betr continues to scale.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and wellbeing support.
- Regular team and company social events.
