The position contributes to the efficient operation of the Office of the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner by assessing and resolving complaints, undertaking inquiries and assisting with investigations and reviews.The position may work across the Ombudsman, Right to Information, Health Complaints and Energy Ombudsman functions in response to operational priorities.

Period of Appointment

Fixed-term until 30 June 2027

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight- flexible options available.

Duties

- Assist the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner in the fulfilment of their responsibilities under the Ombudsman Act 1978, Right to Information Act 2009,



Health Complaints Act 1995, Energy Ombudsman Act 1998 and other legislation as required.
- Assess enquiries, applications and complaints to determine jurisdiction, issues, risks and the appropriate course of action.
- Resolve matters, where appropriate, through communication, negotiation and early resolution.
- Assist with investigations, conciliations and external reviews by gathering evidence, analysing material, complying with procedural fairness and legal requirements.
- Prepare clear correspondence, reports, advice and draft decisions in accordance with legislation and office procedures.
- Advise complainants, applicants, public authorities, service providers, energy entities and other stakeholders about matters within the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner’s jurisdiction and processes.
- Identify systemic issues and formulate suggested strategies for public authorities, service providers and energy entities to improve their procedures and practices.
- Plan and manage a varied caseload, maintain accurate records and appropriately handle sensitive or confidential information.
- Other relevant tasks and duties as required.

checks for:Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person,sex-related offences,drug and alcohol related offences,crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations,malicious damage and destruction to property,serious traffic offences,crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
- Disciplinary action in previous employment.
- A Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
- Current Drivers Licence
- Relevant tertiary qualifications.
