Pre-Opening General Manager - Le Méridien Lindeman Island
Location: Whitsundays, Queensland The Prospect
Lindeman Island is coming back to life. Ahead of its relaunch as a landmark Le Méridien resort in the Whitsundays, we are appointing a Pre-Opening General Manager to build the operation from the ground up the operating model, the team, the systems and the commercial foundations and then lead it.
This is a builder’s role, not a conventional stabilised hotel GM position. It suits someone hands-on, commercially driven and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, AI-enabled environment with an entrepreneurial owner and an experienced hotel operator.
About Le Méridien Lindeman Island
Set within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park at the southern gateway to the Whitsundays, the resort will carry Le Méridien’s European-inspired aesthetic and cultural curiosity premium accommodation, curated dining and beverage, and marine and nature-based experiences delivered through a deliberately lean, technology-enabled operating model in a fully self-contained island setting that demands leadership, resilience and operational ingenuity.
The Role A live-in role on Lindeman Island, with accommodation provided.
You will
- Build the pre-opening organisation recruitment, training, SOPs, operating systems and commercial foundations working with ownership, La Vie Hotels & Resorts and Marriott
- Own the operating budget and, post-opening, the full resort P&L;, delivering agreed revenue, GOP and EBITDA outcomes
- Run a complex remote operation end-to-end: rooms, F&B;, engineering, logistics, marine and recreation, plus the island’s own power, water and waste
- Operate inside an AI-first management system: significant analysis, planning and decision papers are worked through AI tooling - verified by you, owned by you, executed by you
- Challenge traditional hotel practice wherever technology, automation or process redesign delivers a better commercial outcome
- Carry personal “officer” duties under the Queensland Work Health and Safety Act
About You
- This role is designed for an accomplished senior operator ready to step into their first full General Manager appointment.
- 10 years in hospitality, including 3–5 years of genuine independent command with budget or P&L; accountability and real consequences for performance
- Currently a Deputy GM, EAM, Hotel Manager or Resort Manager at a full-service property; remote or island experience highly regarded
- A demonstrably heavy AI user already running your daily work through AI, not merely “open to it”. This is assessed live in our process
- Commercially driven, with strong financial literacy (budget → GOP/EBITDA); a career foundation in sales & marketing or finance is highly regarded
- Self-sufficient in a remote setting: logistics under isolation, weather resilience, live-in team leadership and self-discipline without close supervision
- Full Australian working rights, and ready to make Lindeman Island your base
- High integrity around procurement and financial authority, verified through structured references
- Advantages: pre-opening or development-phase experience; Marriott system experience; Mandarin capability, given the resort’s China-linked supply chain; and trade or M&E; literacy the island runs its own power, water and waste
Why This Role
This is not a role for the cautious.
You will build something extraordinary from the ground up, on one of the most beautiful islands on earth, under one of the world’s most celebrated brands — with an entrepreneurial ownership group and experienced hotel operator committed to a genuinely different way of running a resort.
The package is performance-weighted, with substantial upside tied to delivered results.
