Graduate Structural Design Engineer

Start your career with real responsibility from day one, in a small competent team where you'll get broad exposure to a wide range of projects across their full project lifecycle.

We're a civil and structural design consultancy delivering residential, commercial, industrial, community and education projects across Western Australia. From our Nedlands office we run work throughout the state including Perth, Eagle Bay, Geraldton, Broome, Bunbury, Australind, Albany and Esperance.

You'll start out running construction administration on our retaining wall projects — inspections, site queries, reports and basic design - which is where you'll learn fastest how design decisions play out on the ground. You will be assisting more senior engineers with their design projects running basic calcs as well as using programs like Spacegass and TEDDS. As you build competence, you'll take on more design work and a broader range of projects.

Your week

Three days on site

- Construction administration and inspections on retaining wall projects
- Writing inspection reports
- Resolving site queries with contractors and builders
- Building project management skills ensuring structural compliance to contract drawings.

Two days in the office:
- Retaining wall design and simpler structural elements
- Assisting senior engineers on more complex structural design as you develop
- Mentorship and development mapped to MIEAust competency requirements

The kind of work you'll grow into (some of our featured projects)

- Kalbarri Skywalk — Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Award 2020
- Curtin University Creative Quarter Cycle Hub

We've also received national awards from the Australian Institute of Steel. Our graduates progress into this work as they develop - it's where the role is heading, but it takes time to build the skills to get there. What we're looking for

- A Masters of Skilled Engineering (civil or structural). If you're in your final year of your MPE, tell us - we'll consider you.
- A valid driver's licence, as the role includes regular site travel using an office vehicle
- Clear written and verbal communication, since you'll deal with clients, contractors and consultants early on
- Bonus - if you already have your white card

How to be successful with this application

- A solid grounding in structural analysis and civil/structural fundamentals
- Genuine care about the quality of what you produce
- Value first principle design and be passionate about engineering

- Well-developed research, analytical and problem solving abilities
