Industrial Site Support Technician

The Opportunity
We’re looking for a hands-on and practical Industrial Site Support Technician to join our team at our Mascot industrial site. This is a casual opportunity with the potential to transition to a fixed-term position over time, providing an opportunity to establish yourself within the team and grow with 5B.
This is a varied, all-rounder role supporting the safe, organised and efficient operation of our R&D; site. You’ll work alongside our Industrial Site Lead, workshop team, engineers and project teams, helping keep the site, yard and workshop running smoothly.
From materials handling and deliveries through to workshop support, equipment care, housekeeping and general site maintenance, no two days will necessarily look the same. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, takes pride in keeping things organised and wants to contribute to the development of innovative renewable energy technology.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Site Operations
- Follow all WHS requirements, site rules, safe work procedures and risk controls.
- Participate in inductions, pre-starts, toolbox talks and required training.
- Maintain safe, clean and organised accessways, storage areas, loading zones and work areas.
- Support site setup, pack-up, deliveries, pickups and general site operations.
- Identify and report hazards, equipment faults, damage, incidents and near misses.
- Complete recurring site tasks and respond flexibly to changing operational priorities.
Site & Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain the factory, workshop, yard and common areas to a high standard.
- Complete routine housekeeping and restocking of PPE, workshop consumables and site supplies.
- Undertake minor repairs and practical site improvements within your competency.
- Carry out routine cleaning, inspections and basic preventive maintenance of plant and equipment.
- Complete tasks such as compressor bleeding, forklift cleaning and electric forklift battery-water checks where applicable.
- Conduct pre-start checks and promptly report or isolate faulty or unsafe equipment.
Workshop & Engineering Support
- Assist fabricators, machinists, engineers and project teams with practical tasks.
- Support metal preparation including grinding, deburring, drilling and basic cutting where trained and authorised.
- Assist with painting, cleaning, assembly, fitting, packing and preparation of prototypes, test rigs and equipment.
- Operate approved workshop machinery and power tools where competency and authorisation have been confirmed.
- Support forklift movements and materials handling for workshop and engineering activities.
Deliveries, Materials & Waste
- Receive, identify and distribute incoming deliveries in accordance with site processes.
- Prepare outgoing freight including weighing, measuring, packaging and labelling.
- Load, unload and move materials, equipment and pallets using forklifts and approved mechanical aids.
- Maintain safe and organised loading and delivery areas.
- Manage routine waste, recycling and scrap steel activities and coordinate collections as required.
About You
Qualification
- Current LF forklift licence.
- Additional tickets such as EWP, rigging or other relevant licences are highly regarded.
Experience
- Practical experience in an industrial, workshop, warehouse, yard, trade assistant or similar hands-on environment.
- Experience using common hand and power tools.
- Experience with basic plant and equipment maintenance is advantageous.
- Experience supporting tradespeople, fabricators, engineers or prototype/R&D; activities is highly regarded.
- Experience with goods receiving, dispatch, stock organisation or industrial yard operations is beneficial.
