Your role at St John of God Warrnambool Hospital

We are seeking a dedicated Instrument Technician to join our Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) in a part-time role of up to 48 hours per fortnight. CSSD is responsible for the sterilisation and supply of surgical instruments and equipment supporting our theatres, including General Surgery, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Plastics, and Urology.

Working within established procedures and guidelines, you will rotate through all areas of CSSD, undertaking instrument decontamination, assembly, sterilisation, autoclaving, and distribution. This role requires the ability to work independently under the guidance of a Senior Instrument Technician Grade 3 or 4, or a delegated manager.

Shifts are primarily weekdays, with some weekend work required, operating between 7:30am and 9:00pm, with most shifts being 8.5 hours.

The Position

- Responsible for processing, autoclaving and distributing sterile supplies to all internal and external customers.
- Liaise with all caregivers in the Operating Suite to assist with the provision of individual holistic care to ensure the highest standard of safe and skilled practice is provided which is consistent with the established objectives of the Nursing Department.
- Able to become an integral member of a nursing team to provide optimal patient care for all patients at St John of God Healthcare, their families and significant others.
- Communicate effectively with all customers and patients using the appropriate channels, utilising appropriate formal and informal channels of communication.
- Participate in, contribute to and implement quality improvement and risk management into all aspects of service.

We are seeking candidates with a minimum of six months' experience as an Instrument Technician who are willing to undertake training to achieve a Certificate III in Sterilisation Services. Successful completion of the qualification will result in automatic progression to Grade 3. To be successful in this role,



you will have a current understanding of legislation and standards relating to Work Health and Safety (WHS/OH&S;), compliance requirements, infection prevention and control, and WorkCover, along with effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

- Salary: $64,820 to $80,371 per annum (pro rata for part time), plus 12% superannuation
- Permanent part-time position available up to 48 working hours a fortnight
