Collins Executive Recruitment
Melbourne
This is an opportunity to join a well-capitalised Melbourne family office in a genuinely broad principal-investing role, working across direct investments and external fund allocations.
The investment platform has built a sophisticated portfolio spanning private equity, private credit, real estate and venture capital, alongside selected domestic and international fund managers.
Capital is deployed with a long-term mindset, but the team remains highly active in assessing new opportunities and is willing to move quickly where there is conviction.
Working directly with the Head of Investment, the Investment Analyst will sit close to the point of investment decision-making. The role combines transaction execution, investment underwriting, portfolio analysis and manager research, giving the successful candidate exposure well beyond a narrowly defined asset class or functional remit.
The team is deliberately lean. As a result, this is a role for someone who wants responsibility rather than layers: building models, challenging assumptions, forming a view on an investment, presenting that view clearly and then remaining involved as the investment develops.
Key responsibilities
- Origination, evaluation and execution of direct investments across private equity, private credit, real estate and venture capital
- Building detailed financial models and undertaking valuation, structuring and scenario analysis
- Conducting commercial and financial due diligence across a range of investment opportunities
- Supporting transactions from initial assessment through due diligence, negotiation, documentation and completion
- Preparing investment papers and presenting recommendations to the Investment Committee
- Assessing prospective external fund managers across domestic and international markets
- Monitoring existing managers, direct investments and broader portfolio performance
- Supporting portfolio construction, asset allocation and capital deployment decisions
- Developing relationships with fund managers, sponsors, advisers, brokers and other market participants
- Contributing to broader investment strategy and special projects as the portfolio evolves
Candidate profile: The role would suit an investor or transaction professional with approximately 4+ years of experience gained within an investment environment.
You will ideally bring:
- Robust financial modelling, valuation and analytical skills
- Experience assessing businesses, assets or investment opportunities rather than simply reporting on them
- A sound understanding of risk, returns, transaction structures and investment downside
- The ability to form an independent view and defend an investment thesis
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Genuine interest in investing across private markets
- Commercial judgement and intellectual curiosity
- The maturity to operate with discretion in a private investment environment
- Comfort working within a small team where individual contribution is highly visible
- Relevant tertiary qualifications across Finance, Commerce, Business, Engineering, Property or Law; CA or CFA qualifications would be viewed favourably
The attraction of the role is its breadth. Rather than specialising exclusively in transactions, portfolio management or fund research, the successful candidate will develop across all three. For someone seeking a long-term principal-investing career, it provides direct exposure to capital allocation decisions, experienced investors and a portfolio spanning multiple private-market strategies.
