Role Description
This is a full-time, in office Junior Lawyer role based in Sydney, NSW.
The Junior
Lawyer will assist senior practitioners with legal research, drafting correspondence, preparing court documents, and reviewing contracts and evidence across the firm’s practice areas.
Responsibilities include attending client meetings and court hearings under supervision, helping manage case files, and maintaining accurate and confidential records. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues to prepare matter strategies, supporting settlement negotiations, and contributing to internal knowledge resources. The successful candidate will be expected to learn quickly, manage competing deadlines, and maintain a high standard of professional ethics and client service.
Qualifications
- Strong legal research and writing skills,
including the ability to analyse legislation, case law, and legal commentary and present findings clearly.
- Competence in drafting legal documents (e.g., pleadings, affidavits, contracts, and client correspondence) with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Foundational knowledge or demonstrated interest in one or more of the firm’s practice areas (e.g., commercial litigation, corporate law, building and construction, family law, criminal law).
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with clients, barristers, and internal teams, including the ability to explain legal concepts in plain language.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple matters, meet deadlines, and maintain thorough file management.
- Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and professional conduct in line with regulatory requirements and firm standards.
- Proficiency with standard office software and legal practice tools (e.g., document management systems, online research platforms such as LexisNexis or Westlaw).
- Completed law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited institution and eligibility for, or current admission as, a lawyer/solicitor in New South Wales.
- Prior legal internship, clerkship, or paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house environment is highly regarded.
