The Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for an early-career Lawyer to join our Corporate Services team and support the effective management of legal and governance risk across MBS.

Reporting to MBS's principal Legal Counsel, you will provide practical legal and contract administration support across a broad range of matters, including commercial contracts, governance, compliance, risk management, insurance, privacy and policy administration.

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with one to three years’ post-admission experience who is looking to develop broad in-house capability within a collaborative and purpose-driven organisation.

Key responsibilities will include

- Supporting the Legal Counsel to provide timely, practical and accurate advice on a range of legal matters.
- Assisting with the preparation, review, administration and tracking of commercial contracts and other agreements.
- Maintaining the School’s contract register, contract management framework and suite of standard-form agreements.
- Assisting with the review of tender documentation and identifying contractual issues requiring escalation.
- Monitoring relevant legal and regulatory developments that may affect MBS.




- Supporting the maintenance of the School’s risk management and compliance frameworks.
- Coordinating policy reviews and working with responsible managers to ensure policies remain current, accessible and legally compliant.
- Supporting the administration of the School’s insurance program, including responding to queries, assisting with claims and maintaining appropriate records.
- Assisting the School’s Privacy Officer with privacy assessments, record-keeping, policies, guidance and training materials.
- Maintaining the School’s Legal and Governance Hub and associated legal documentation.

About You To succeed in this position, you will hold a Bachelor of Laws or a Juris Doctor, alongside a current Australian practising certificate in good standing, together with approximately one to three years’ post-admission experience gained in commercial, corporate, regulatory or in-house legal practice.

You will also bring

- A sound understanding of contract law and experience reviewing and drafting commercial agreements.
- An understanding of legal, governance and compliance processes within established organisational frameworks.
- Knowledge of privacy law and sound data management practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, professional judgement and ethical decision-making.
- The confidence to engage effectively with managers, senior leaders and staff across the organisation.
- A proactive,



process-oriented approach and a practical problem-solving mindset.
- The ability to identify legal and commercial risks and escalate matters appropriately.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
- Demonstrated discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
- A collaborative working style and the ability to build trusted relationships across teams.

Experience with intellectual property law, particularly copyright, and exposure to risk management frameworks will be highly regarded.
