Southern Cross Education Institute – Higher Education (SCEI-HE) is seeking an experienced Social Work academic to join the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) [MSW(Q)] program in a permanent full-time Lecturer position.
The role has a strong focus on teaching, assessment, student support, placement support, curriculum development, scholarly activity and continuous improvement. We are looking for a candidate with contemporary Social Work knowledge and professional experience who can contribute immediately to the quality and delivery of the MSW(Q).
Purpose of the Role
As Lecturer – Master of Social Work (Qualifying), you will deliver research-informed teaching and assessment, support students throughout their studies and placements, contribute to curriculum and quality improvement, and work collaboratively with the Academic Lead and broader academic team.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching, Assessment & Student Support
- Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, workshops and other learning activities within the MSW(Q).
- Develop and review teaching materials, assessment tasks, marking guides and rubrics.
- Undertake marking and assessment and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
- Provide academic consultation, guidance and support to students.
- Monitor student engagement, participation and academic progress.
- Support academic integrity and appropriate academic standards.
Placement Support
- Support placement and field education activities within the MSW(Q) as required.
- Work collaboratively with placement staff to support students before, during and following placement.
- Assist with placement-related student communication, documentation,
monitoring and follow-up where required.
- Liaise appropriately with placement providers, supervisors and other external stakeholders as required.
Curriculum, Quality & Scholarship
- Contribute to curriculum development, course review and continuous improvement of the MSW(Q).
- Participate in scholarly and research-informed academic activities relevant to Social Work education and practice.
- Maintain contemporary knowledge of Social Work professional, ethical and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to academic quality assurance, moderation and governance activities as required.
- Participate in professional development and maintain discipline currency.
Collaboration & Professional Engagement
- Work collaboratively with the Academic Lead, lecturers, placement staff and professional staff.
- Engage appropriately with Social Work industry, professional and community stakeholders.
- Contribute to a collegial, inclusive and student-focused academic environment.
- Undertake other reasonable academic duties consistent with the classification and needs of the program.
Essential Criteria
- A recognised qualification in Social Work, with qualifications and/or professional standing appropriate to teaching within an AQF Level 9 Master of Social Work (Qualifying) program.
- Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), or evidence of qualifications that meet the professional requirements relevant to Australian Social Work practice.
- Relevant professional Social Work practice experience.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver contemporary, research-informed teaching and assessment in higher education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary Social Work practice, professional standards and ethical requirements.
- Ability to develop or contribute to high-quality curriculum, teaching materials and assessment activities.
- Ability to support and engage students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Capacity to contribute to scholarly activity and the continuous improvement of the MSW(Q).
Desirable Criteria
- Previous teaching experience within an MSW(Q) or other Social Work higher education program.
- Current AASW membership.
- Knowledge of AASW / Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS).
- Experience in curriculum development, moderation or academic quality assurance.
- Established professional networks within the Social Work sector.
- Experience supporting Social Work field education, student placements or placement coordination.
- Experience teaching international and culturally diverse student cohorts.
- Experience using learning management systems such as Moodle and student management systems.
