The position can be based in Alpha, Jericho, Barcaldine, Aramac or Muttaburra and offers an over-award employment package on a four-year fixed-term contract.
Your new role
Reporting to the Director of Works, you will lead the delivery of Council's engineering services function, overseeing the planning, design, construction and management of civil infrastructure projects across the region. You will manage capital works programs, provide technical engineering leadership, oversee contractor performance, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
Key responsibilities include
- Managing engineering projects from planning through to completion
- Overseeing contract administration, construction activities and consultant engagement
- Leading capital works planning, budgeting and project delivery
- Managing project schedules, budgets, risks and quality outcomes
- Ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and engineering standards
- Supporting water infrastructure projects and water efficiency initiatives
- Providing technical advice and leadership to internal stakeholders
- Building solid relationships with contractors, consultants, government agencies and the broader community
- Assisting with annual and long-term budget development and financial management
- Supporting strategic infrastructure planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong engineering leadership capability and a proven track record delivering complex infrastructure projects.
You will possess
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Registration as an RPEQ Civil Engineer
- Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence
- White Card (General Construction Induction Card)
- Minimum 6 years' civil engineering experience
- Minimum 5 years' project management experience, ideally within local government or public works
- Strong expertise managing engineering and construction projects from concept through delivery
- Demonstrated experience in contract administration, contractor management and capital works delivery
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, leadership and communication skills
- Sound knowledge of engineering design, construction standards and public infrastructure delivery.
