Your new company An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Manager Planning & Environment to join a progressive regional Council in North West Queensland. Reporting to the Director Infrastructure & Environment, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across planning, development assessment, environmental health, local laws, regulatory compliance and waste management services.
This is a key leadership position where you will play an integral role in shaping sustainable growth, ensuring legislative compliance and delivering high-quality services that support the community and Council's long-term vision.
Your current role
As Manager Planning & Environment, you will lead a multidisciplinary team and oversee a broad portfolio of regulatory and environmental functions. Responsibilities will include:
- Providing leadership, strategic direction and operational management of the Planning & Environment team
- Managing planning, development assessment, building and plumbing administration activities
- Overseeing environmental health, local laws, animal management, regulatory compliance and waste services
- Leading budget management, workforce planning and service delivery outcomes
- Building strong relationships with community stakeholders, government agencies and industry groups
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and Council policies
- Coordinating local disaster management activities and supporting Council's emergency management obligations
- Preparing high-level reports,
briefings and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Planning, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Law, Public Administration or a related discipline
- Significant experience within local government planning, environmental or regulatory services
- Strong understanding of planning, development assessment, environmental health, local laws and compliance frameworks
- Proven leadership experience managing teams, contractors, budgets and service delivery
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills
- Sound analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
- A current unrestricted C Class Driver's Licence.
