McArthur is seeking an experienced transport planning or infrastructure planning professional for a 12-month contract opportunity working on a nationally significant rail infrastructure program.

This role will suit someone who is comfortable working across the technical, planning and stakeholder sides of a major transport project - coordinating specialist advice, reviewing planning inputs and helping turn complex information into clear, practical recommendations.

You will work as part of an integrated project team supporting transport integration and strategic planning activities across both current project development and longer-term network planning.

The role

Working closely with senior project leadership, you will coordinate transport planning activities and technical inputs across a broad range of workstreams.

Your responsibilities will include

- Coordinating transport integration and planning activities across a major rail infrastructure project.
- Supporting planning for station access, interchange, multimodal connectivity, station catchments and surrounding transport network interfaces.
- Reviewing planning and design information and identifying matters requiring further investigation or technical input.
- Supporting strategic network planning, including station planning, corridor considerations and integration with existing and future transport networks.
- Coordinating inputs from transport planners, technical advisers, consultants and other project disciplines.
- Managing adviser work packages, deliverables, actions, schedules and interfaces.
- Working with Commonwealth, State and Territory agencies, local government, transport operators and other stakeholders.
- Supporting engagement on rail network interfaces, transport connectivity and broader network integration.
- Undertaking research and analysis and preparing clear planning advice, reports and briefing material.




- Maintaining work plans, risks, issues, dependencies, schedules and progress reporting.
- Contributing to executive briefings, governance papers, presentations and other decision-making material.

Those are the core activities set out in the role itself, including station access, multimodal connectivity, strategic station planning, corridor planning, adviser management and multidisciplinary coordination.

What we're looking for

The strongest candidates will bring a background in transport planning, infrastructure planning, rail, public transport or major transport infrastructure. You will ideally have demonstrated experience in several of the following areas:

- Transport planning or infrastructure planning within a major project environment.
- Rail, metro, public transport or other significant transport infrastructure.
- Station access, interchange, multimodal transport or network integration.
- Strategic transport, corridor or precinct planning.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary technical inputs and external consultants.
- Working with government transport, infrastructure or planning agencies.
- Reviewing technical reports, planning studies or design documentation.
- Preparing concise reports, briefs and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Managing project schedules, risks, issues, dependencies and competing priorities.
- Building effective working relationships across government, consultants and industry.





You do not need to be the technical designer or engineer responsible for every workstream. What is important is that you understand the transport planning environment, can confidently work with technical specialists and can bring multiple inputs together into practical project advice.

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in one of the following areas would be highly regarded: Transport Planning, Urban or Regional Planning, Civil or Transport Engineering, Infrastructure Planning, Geography, or another closely related discipline.

Relevant postgraduate qualifications are desirable but not essential.

Equivalent substantial professional experience may also be considered.

Contract details

Term: 12 months with potential for a further 12-month extension Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Locations: Sydney, Newcastle or Canberra

Work arrangement: Hybrid

Travel: Some travel between project locations may be required
