About the Role
Service Stream's Utilities division is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our Brisbane team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a hands-on role maintaining critical water and wastewater infrastructure that supports local communities. You'll be responsible for delivering preventive, reactive, and corrective maintenance while ensuring assets operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
A key focus of this position is the maintenance and refurbishment of sewer doors, penstock valves, and other large manually operated mechanical assets. The role also involves delivering minor capital works projects, supporting operational improvements, and working closely with engineers, operators, and trade partners to optimise network performance.
Due to operational requirements, this role requires a willingness to undertake regular night shift work, providing a great opportunity for those seeking variety and additional earning potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, corrective,
and reactive maintenance activities
- Conduct fault finding, repairs, overhauls, and equipment installations
- Maintain sewer doors, penstock valves, and associated mechanical infrastructure
- Assist with commissioning and decommissioning of plant and equipment
- Support engineers and operational teams with technical expertise
- Contribute to the scoping, estimating, and planning of maintenance works
- Deliver minor works and improvement projects
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental standards
- Mentor apprentices and support the development of team capabilities
- Build positive working relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders

Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Trade qualification in a relevant Mechanical discipline
- Current Driver's Licence
- Current MR/HR Licence or willingness to obtain
- Experience working within the water, wastewater, utilities, or a similar industrial environment
- Experience maintaining sewer doors, penstock valves, and other manually actuated valves
- Strong fault-finding and mechanical maintenance experience
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
- Willingness to undertake night shift work as required
Desirable:
- Experience working on wastewater treatment plants and associated equipment
- National High Risk Work Licence
- Experience with pumps, piping systems, and treatment process equipment
- Additional mechanical or maintenance certifications
