About the role The Dayshift Mechanical Maintainer is a hands-on trade role responsible for maintaining the safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant and equipment while also supporting effective maintenance planning, scheduling and departmental procurement. The role combines mechanical fitting, preventive and corrective maintenance, fault finding and breakdown response with the preparation of work orders, maintenance schedules, work packs, materials, technical documentation if required. The position works closely with the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, maintenance team, production personnel to minimise unplanned downtime, improve equipment reliability and ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert mechanical fitting support across plant equipment, including preventive, predictive, corrective and breakdown maintenance.
- Inspect, diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and process equipment faults using a logical, systematic approach.
- Repair, overhaul, install, align and commission mechanical equipment and components within trade competence and site procedures.
- Apply sound knowledge of mechanical systems;
experience with pneumatics and hydraulics is highly regarded.
- Participate in the callout roster and provide out-of-hours plant support when required.
- Support root cause investigations and implement agreed corrective actions to prevent repeat failures.
- Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance schedules in consultation with the Engineering & Maintenance Manager and production team.
- Assess, prioritise and plan work orders based on safety,
urgency, equipment criticality, production requirements and available resources.
- Prepare execution-ready work orders and work packs that clearly define scope, job steps, labour, estimated duration, permits, isolations, risk controls, tools, materials, drawings and contractor requirements.
- Create, review, update and close work orders in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring accurate scope, status, labour, materials, failure information and completion notes.
About you
- Completion of a recognised trade apprenticeship in mechanical fitting, fitting and turning, boilermaking or a closely related mechanical trade, with a trade qualification recognised in Australia.
- Demonstrated industrial mechanical maintenance experience and practical fault-finding capability on process or manufacturing equipment.
- Experience planning and scheduling maintenance work, including preventive maintenance, work orders, resource coordination.
- Exposure to vendor and spares management, including procurement.
- Practical experience using a CMMS; SAP maintenance experience is highly regarded.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with logical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance hands-on maintenance work with planning, documentation and competing priorities.
- Sound understanding of maintenance planning principles, equipment criticality and protected work preparation.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication with maintenance, production, engineering, contractors and suppliers.
- Accurate record keeping and confidence using CMMS/SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
