About the role

Launceston Eye Institute is seeking a dedicated Medical Receptionist / Ophthalmic Technician for our Specialist Ophthalmic Practice based in Ulverstone, TAS 7315. This is a full-time position that combines front-of-house reception duties with ophthalmic technical support, making it an ideal role for someone who thrives in a dynamic healthcare environment. You will be the first point of contact for our patients whilst also providing essential technical assistance to our clinical team, ensuring smooth operations and exceptional patient care.

This role is integral to the success of our practice, bridging communication between patients, clinicians, and administrative functions.

- Key responsibilities
- Manage reception duties including greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records and databases
- Provide ophthalmic technical support, including assisting with patient examinations, operating diagnostic equipment, and recording patient data
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all equipment is set up and ready for use
- Collect patient payments, process invoices, and manage billing inquiries professionally and accurately
- Answer telephone enquiries, respond to emails, and communicate with patients regarding appointment times, results, and general practice information
- Assist clinicians during consultations and procedures as required
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all privacy legislation and practice policies
- Maintain a clean and professional practice environment
- Perform administrative tasks

What are we looking for

- Previous experience as a medical environment or administration role would be preferred but not essential
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse patient groups
- Proficiency in general computer systems
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise and multiple tasks
- Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining patient records and financial documentation




- Reliable, professional demeanour with a genuine desire to support patient well-being
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cooperative team
- Prioritise tasks to maintain patient flow

More information

Our primary practice is located in South Launceston, the position advertised is based in our satellite clinic in Ulverstone. It is a requirement that the successful applicant is available to work at the Launceston practice intermittently. Initial training for the position will be conducted in Launceston.

The successful applicant must have the flexibility to be able to work over the spread of hours of 6.30 am to 7:00 pm Monday to Friday based on a four-week rotating roster. The position is currently based on a 72-hour fortnight some restructuring of the position may enable this to vary.
