The Role

This is a fixed-term full-time opportunity until 24 December 2026 within our Customer Services team. As a Meter Reader, you'll play a key role in accurately collecting and processing water meter data across domestic, commercial, and industrial properties.

Working independently across assigned routes, you'll spend most of your day outdoors, using technology to capture meter data, identify and report safety risks, and provide qualified customer service to the community.

In this role, you will:

- Read water meters across assigned routes using handheld technology.
- Collect and process accurate meter data for billing purposes.
- Meet daily productivity and quality targets while working safely.
- Assess property access and identify potential hazards.
- Record information and upload data into corporate systems.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service when interacting with customers and members of the public.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Meter Reading team.

What we’re looking for

- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Basic computer and technology skills, or the ability to quickly learn.
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
- A commitment to workplace safety.
- The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.
- A current Class C Driver Licence.

Desirable:

- Experience collecting or processing field-based data.
- Knowledge of Meter Interface Units (MIUs).

The Details

This role will be based at Hobart and is a fixed-term full-time position until 24 December 2026 and attracts an hourly rate commencing from $33.72 per hour, plus superannuation.

The role requires significant outdoor work and may involve:

- Walking for extended periods throughout the day.
- Working in varying weather conditions.
- Bending and accessing underground water meters.
- Occasional lifting of heavy objects.
- Intrastate travel and occasional overnight stays where required.
