Role Description The Mid-Weight Product Designer role is a full-time, hybrid position based in St Kilda, VIC.
The designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design,
and refine toys and product ranges from brief through to production. Day-to-day responsibilities include translating brand and product strategies into compelling visual concepts, developing prototypes, conducting user and play pattern research, and iterating designs based on feedback and testing. The role involves preparing design specifications and documentation for manufacturing partners, ensuring designs meet safety, quality, and cost requirements.
The designer will contribute to continuous improvement of ToyMonster’s product design standards and support the art, marketing, and engineering teams with design assets and presentations.
Qualifications
- Strong product and visual design skills, including Product Design and Visual Design, with a portfolio demonstrating toy, consumer product, or industrial design work.
- Proficiency in human-centered design approaches, including Design Thinking and User Research, to inform concept development and refinement.
- Experience conducting UX Research or play testing to understand how children and caregivers interact with toys and product features.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Product Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, or a related discipline.
- Comfort working from concept to production, including prototyping, specifying materials, and collaborating with manufacturers (experience with Asia-based production is beneficial).
- Strong skills in industry-standard design and prototyping tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, CAD software, 3D modeling or rendering tools).
- Ability to effectively collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Attention to detail, understanding of toy safety and compliance standards, and an interest in children’s entertainment, play trends, and emerging toy categories.
