King Island, Tasmania Full-Time | Permanent Role

FIFO or Residential Roster

Group 6 Metals is seeking a motivated Mine Surveyor to support mining operations at the Dolphin Tungsten Mine on King Island. This role offers the chance to work in a unique location while contributing to an underground operation.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the Mine Surveyor will carry out all day‑to‑day surveying activities required to support mining operations. You will conduct pickups, set‑outs, control establishment, and stockpile volumes, while producing accurate survey plans and models for operational decisions and mine planning. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Geology and Operations teams to ensure data accuracy, compliance, and efficient development of the mine.

Key Responsibilities

- Complete daily, weekly and monthly survey activities
- Conduct field surveys including pickups, mark‑ups, set‑outs and control establishment
- Maintain and update survey control networks
- Produce accurate survey plans, 3D models and spatial data
- Support pit design updates, compliance monitoring and reconciliations
- Operate and maintain survey equipment (GPS, total station, laser scanner)
- Perform stockpile surveys, volume calculations and end‑of‑month reporting
- Manage and back up survey data in line with site procedures
- Collaborate with Technical Services and Operations teams
- Contribute to continuous improvement in survey processes

Safety & Compliance

- Follow survey safety protocols and SWIs
- Promote safety awareness across site




- Identify and communicate hazards in active mining areas
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks and investigations

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

- Degree or Diploma in Surveying, Spatial Science or similar.

Skills & Experience

- Experience in a geotechnical engineering role.
- Exposure to open‑pit or underground geotechnical practices.
- Experience with geotechnical monitoring systems and data interpretation.
- Ability to conduct geotechnical inspections and hazard mapping.

Essential Competencies

- 1–3 years’ experience in mine surveying (underground highly regarded)
- Proficient with GPS, total stations and laser scanning
- Ability to collect, validate and process survey data
- Experience preparing survey files, plans, and GIS outputs.
- Solid spatial accuracy and attention to detail
- Knowledge of mine compliance monitoring and design mark‑ups
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Commitment to safe work practices

Desirable

- Drone surveying experience
- Understanding of mine planning and geology
- Experience in volume reconciliation and reporting
