Southern.IML Pathology has a vacancy for a full time medical scientist (SO) to work in our pathology laboratory located at Wollongong Private Hospital. The focus of this position is to provide accurate and efficient pathology testing to meet the needs of the Hospital; the successful applicant must be committed to working in a regional area.
Southern.IML Pathology has served the region for 40 years, with a strong reputation for being innovative in the pathology and quality management fields.
The hospital laboratory operates on a rotating roster, providing a 24-hour service including overnight shifts and on-call.
The position requires
- A relevant bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or AIMS-equivalent overseas qualification.
- Demonstrated ability to apply multi-specialty scientific judgement in Haematology, Transfusion and Chemical Pathology.
- Test reporting and validation in Haematology, Transfusion and Chemical Pathology.
- Reporting urgent and abnormal results to relevant clinicians.
- Theoretical knowledge and understanding of Haematology, Transfusion and Chemical Pathology principles and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services in accordance with qualified clinical standards, established principles/procedures and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.
- A strong clinical focus.
- Rotational shift work including participation in a weekend roster.
- The ability to multi-task in a fast paced department.
- Commitment to high quality work and customer service.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A valid visa with permission to work in Australia.
To satisfy the on call requirement the successful applicant must live within 20 minutes travelling time of the Wollongong Private Hospital Laboratory. Applications close on: 18 September 2026
