Looking for an experienced Network Security Engineer with deep expertise across Zscaler and Akamai (or Cloudflare) technologies to join a high-performing team delivering and supporting enterprise-scale secure access and application protection solutions.

Minimum 6 month contract. Role based in Melbourne but can be remote/hybrid

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of engineering, operational support, troubleshooting and continuous improvement across modern SASE and web application security platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Zscaler

- Hands-on administration, engineering and operational support across Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) environments. Experience with ZDX is highly regarded.
- Design, implement and optimise security policies including:
- URL filtering
- Application control
- SSL/TLS inspection
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
- CASB policy configuration
- Manage application segmentation, ZPA connector deployment and PAC file configuration.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex, business-critical user-impacting issues.
- Engage directly with Zscaler Support to investigate and remediate platform-related incidents.
- Collaborate with architecture and identity teams to integrate Zscaler into broader Zero Trust and SASE security frameworks .

Akamai/Cloudflare

- Configure, administer and tune App & API Protector (AAP) and/or Kona Site Defender solutions.




- Manage and optimise:
- Web Application Firewall (WAF) policies
- Bot Manager controls
- Rate limiting and traffic protection policies
- Support CDN and web delivery services, including Property Manager configuration and certificate lifecycle management.
- Analyse attack telemetry, security events and threat intelligence data to continually refine protections while maintaining application availability and performance.
- Work closely with application and infrastructure teams to balance security requirements with customer experience.

What We're Looking For

- Proven experience administering and engineering enterprise Zscaler and Akamai/Cloudflare environments.
- Strong understanding of Zero Trust, SASE, web security and application protection principles.
- Experience troubleshooting complex networking, identity and secure access issues.
- Ability to engage with both technical stakeholders and business teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Desirable Skills

- Experience with Proofpoint security solutions.
- Exposure to cloud security platforms and identity providers such as Microsoft Entra ID, Okta or Ping.
- Relevant vendor certifications across Zscaler, Akamai or broader cybersecurity disciplines.
