Moon Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Nursery Horticulturalist for our client, a local council based South of the River for a short term placement commencing on the 29th of September. Reporting to the Natural Areas Supervisor you will be responsible for maintaining quality plant stock that helps enhance the City’s parks, reserves and streetscapes. This hands-on role involves nursery operations, native seed collection, community engagement, and the secure maintenance of nursery facilities, equipment and plant assets.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

- Support the propagation, cultivation and maintenance of nursery stock, including native plants, trees and shrubs.
- Collect, store and manage native seed stock to maintain a local seed bank.
- Source, purchase and prepare plants and trees for City planting programs.
- Maintain nursery facilities, stock gardens, equipment and assets to a high standard.
- Safely operate and maintain nursery plant and equipment in line with WHS procedures.
- Liaise with staff, volunteers, community groups and external customers.
- Assist with community engagement and environmental education activities, including tree planting events.
- Support the training and development of nursery staff as required.




- Maintain accurate records of plant stock, seed collection, propagation and purchases.
- Identify and report maintenance issues to support the upkeep of City assets.
- Complete timesheets, safety documentation, incident reports and other administrative records accurately and on time.

Essential Requirements:

- Certificate III in Horticulture or relevant industry experience
- Previous experience working in a plant nursery highly regarded
- Knowledge of native seed collection and propagation practices
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment
- Current National Police Clearance (issued within the last 6 months)
- Current Australian C Class Driver's Licence
- Willing to undergo Drug and Alchohol Screening
