This role is a District Wide Position. The Population and Community Health (PaCH) Professional Nursing Lead provides skilled leadership for all nurses and midwives working within the Directorate of PaCH. The role provides expert advice to the Director, Population and Community Health on clinical governance, professional nursing practice and nursing workforce matters across the Directorate.

Through strategic leadership and professional support, the position promotes continual improvement in nursing practice, quality improvement, evidence-informed care and service delivery, contributing to patient-centred care and optimal health outcomes for the community.

In addition to providing professional leadership for the nursing and midwifery workforce, the role supports the Director, Population and Community Health in progressing Directorate priorities and provides strategic advice on operational, nursing and clinical governance matters across PaCH. The role does not have operational responsibility for individual Directorates or services but works collaboratively with Directors and senior nurse managers to support consistent, high-quality nursing practice across PaCH.

The position maintains strong collaborative partnerships with the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) Director of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as Directors of Nursing and Midwifery across SESLHD facilities, to promote alignment of professional standards, workforce strategies, and improvement initiatives.

The role reports operationally to the Director, Population and Community Health. The role provides professional leadership, mentoring and professional nursing oversight to Nurse Managers within PaCH.



Operational management and service accountability remain with the relevant Directorate Directors and their senior nurse managers.

Selection Criteria

- Registered Nurse or Midwife who holds current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Holds tertiary management qualifications or equivalent work experience relevant to the role and demonstrated evidence of recent professional development to further enhance leadership and management competencies.
- Demonstrated experience and competencies in leading organisational change management and achievements of measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated broad clinical, operational and strategic experience at a senior level within a complex health care environment, with an ability to function as part of a senior management team working successfully with other professional and disciplines in the management of health care services.
- Comprehensive knowledge of, and commitment to, health system safety and quality, risk management, innovation, professional practice development and research.
- Demonstrated in depth knowledge of current clinical practice, its delivery and models of care and the ability to motivate, inspire, and lead staff to achieve service and clinical outcomes.
- Demonstrated high level verbal, written, interpersonal and negotiation skills, including the use of information technology platforms.
- Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW and willingness to travel throughout the district as required.
