Your opportunity

Join the Port Authority team as a Port Officer at Yamba.

Your role will be filled with variety and challenge as you help us operate a protected and secure port 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in compliance with our Port Safety Operating Licence. This is a shift worker role.

The principal responsibility of the position is to provide a range of services associated with the Port’s operations including driving Port Authority launches to transport personnel and/or equipment in Yamba. You will assist Pilots to embark and disembark ships and participate in incident and oil spill response activities.

This role is based in Yamba and will report to the Manager, Marine Services based in Newcastle.

This is a maximum term contract for up to 12 months.

Here’s how your impact will truly count:

- You’ll operate Port Authority launches to transport personnel and equipment in the Port of Yamba
- You’ll support pilot transport activities for vessel movements
- You’ll test and maintain emergency response equipment
- You’ll participate in emergency response within the port including oil and chemical spills




- You’ll assist with the maintenance of Port Authority vessels as required
- You’ll investigate and report on minor incidents in accordance with Domestic Commercial Vehicle (DCV) requirements
- You’ll participate in and record safety conversations
- You’ll coordinate inspection and maintenance of navigation aids within Port limits
- You’ll assist with administrative tasks and maintenance of relevant plans and procedures associated with the marine operations in Yamba
- You’ll balance competing priorities in a busy operating environment ensuring stakeholder needs are met
- You’ll work effectively as part of a multi-skilled team under challenging conditions
- You’ll facilitate safe pilot transfers in all weather conditions

Skills and Experiences

What You’ll Bring

Master <24m Near Coastal
- MED 3
- Ability to obtain Certificate of Local Knowledge for Yamba
- Ability to obtain and maintain a First Aid at Work Certificate and MSIC Card
- Current drivers licence
- Willingness to travel between locations in the portfolio
- Willingness to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of the Port and the operations of Port Authority, including SOP’s.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Suite, including Excel and Outlook
- Flexibility to meet the needs of the shipping program
