Talent House Recruitment
Southern Sydney
An opportunity exists for a skilled Principal Environmental Planner to join the Environment & Sustainability team in the Sydney office. This is a hands-on, technically focused role involving the delivery of complex environmental assessments and planning approvals for major infrastructure, transport, and public works projects.
Rather than managing people, the focus is on technical execution, navigating environmental legislation, managing technical sub-consultants, and authoring high-quality environmental documentation to support the client's objectives.
For a technical specialist who enjoys rolling up their sleeves to solve complex environmental challenges and deliver pragmatic, first-time-right outcomes, this platform offers an ideal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Delivery: Prepare and coordinate comprehensive environmental impact assessments, Reviews of Environmental Factors (REFs), and environmental management plans for major projects.
- Regulatory Compliance: Navigate environmental legislation, policies, and statutory approval processes, ensuring all project documentation meets rigorous regulatory standards and protects the client's interests.
- Technical Integration: Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering, design, and technical teams to ensure environmental controls and constraints are properly embedded into project design.
- Stakeholder & Sub-consultant Management:
Coordinate technical specialist inputs (such as ecology, heritage, noise, and water quality) and assist with agency or stakeholder consultation on behalf of the client.
- Problem Solving: Provide hands-on technical advice on environmental risks, mitigation measures, and compliance tracking throughout project lifecycles.
About You
- Experience: 10+ years of environmental planning experience within the Australian consultancy, contractor, or infrastructure sector.
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Geography, or a related discipline.
- Technical Acumen: Demonstrated hands-on experience authoring environmental assessment reports
- Mindset: Detail-oriented, highly analytical, and pragmatic—someone who takes pride in producing exceptional technical work without unnecessary bureaucracy.
What Is Offered
- Impact: Hands-on involvement in shaping critical transport, infrastructure, and sustainability projects across New South Wales.
- Culture: A cooperative, supportive, and technically driven team environment that values specialist expertise and practical problem-solving.
- Growth: Opportunities to sharpen technical skillsets on complex projects with clear pathways for professional development.
If this role resonates with you then we welcome your application
