Primary objective

Provide policy advice and support; contribute to complex research and analysis in relation to development, coordination,

implementation and evaluation of strategic policy initiatives. Will manage, supervise and/or contribute to a policy team developing their policy knowledge, skills, and expertise.

Context statement The Strategic Policy and Coordination Division supports Ministers and Cabinet to define and deliver high priority strategic policy and reform initiatives,



through leadership and coordination at the Territory level. There is a particular focus on activities supporting the Government’s priorities to reduce crime, restore the Territory lifestyle and improve outcomes for communities.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Identify and lead research of strategic and social policy issues, including emerging issues, risks and opportunities.
2. Lead analysis and positioning of policy options to identify and develop solutions and advice for decision-makers.
3. Conduct policy consultation and negotiation on complex stakeholder issues, and translate evidence, stakeholder views

and government priorities into practical options.
1. Act as a conduit between policy areas and management to identify policy-related links, dependencies and opportunities

for coordinated action.
- Build and support cooperation and collaboration across teams and agencies to progress shared policy outcomes.
- Monitor implementation of existing policies and conduct reviews and/or evaluations to inform future policy development and continuous improvement.

1. Lead the provision of specialised advice on highly complex and sensitive strategic policy matters.

Selection criteria

Essential

1.



Demonstrated experience delivering strategic policy work in a government or comparable environment, including

researching issues, assessing evidence and preparing practical policy advice for decision-makers.
- Robust analytical and conceptual thinking skills, including the ability to analyse complex information, identify key issues and options, and develop clear, evidence-based recommendations within short timeframes.
- Experience preparing high-quality written material, including briefs, correspondence, reports, Cabinet or ministerial advice, that explains complex issues clearly and concisely.
- Experience coordinating policy projects or work programs, including planning work, managing competing priorities and delivering outputs to agreed standards and deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively across government, with stakeholders and with subject matter experts to test issues, build shared understanding and progress practical policy outcomes.
- Sound judgement, initiative and resilience in dealing with sensitive, ambiguous or fast-moving issues, including knowing when to escalate risks and seek direction.

Desirable

1. A relevant undergraduate degree.
2. Technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the agency’s business and strategic direction, specific policy areas or
