Our H5N1 Avian Influenza Coordination Team are currently seeking to appoint a Principal Project Officer. The Principal Project Officer provides support to the Avian Influenza Coordinator in the leadership, coordination and strategic oversight of DCCEEW Avian Influenza preparedness activities. The position plays a critical role in ensuring delivery of the Avian Influenza Coordination team's preparedness and response work program, coordinating complex projects and stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality advice, products and reporting. The position works closely with internal and external stakeholders, including other government agencies, research organisations, NGOs and executive leadership, to support coordinated wildlife preparedness and response outcomes.

About You

- Support the Avian Influenza Coordinator to ensure delivery of work programs.
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of preparedness planning and response support activities.
- Coordinate complex cross-agency projects and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Draft high-quality executive briefings, reports, correspondence and strategic advice.
- Identify emerging risks, issues and opportunities and provide strategic advice to inform decision-making.
- Support the management of resources, work planning,



priorities and team performance to ensure delivery of key outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams that deliver complex programs, projects or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Robust strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management capabilities.
- Experience preparing strategic advice, executive briefings and high-level reports.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within tight timeframes.
- Experience in biodiversity conservation, wildlife management, environmental policy, emergency management, biosecurity, or a related field would be highly regarded.
- Specific knowledge of H5 bird flu is NOT required

Key knowledge and experience

- Extensive experience in planning, implementing and managing complex projects to achieve priority objectives.
- Proven ability in influencing stakeholders to take action and deliver agreed outcomes.
