We are seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer to join a large-scale technology setting on an initial 12-month contract , with the potential for a further 12-month extension .
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role suited to someone with experience across AWS, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code and container platforms , combined with the ability to provide technical leadership, influence engineering direction and work closely with business and technical stakeholders.
The role can be based in QLD, ACT, VIC, NSW or SA , with hybrid working arrangements requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office .
The role
You will play a key role in the design, development, deployment and ongoing support of cloud and data infrastructure within a complex enterprise workplace. Working closely with engineering teams and business stakeholders, you will help shape technical solutions, establish engineering best practices and support the delivery of highly available, scalable and secure platforms.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading the design, development and support of cloud and platform infrastructure
- Designing and implementing scalable solutions within AWS
- Building and improving CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Supporting Kubernetes and container-based platforms
- Establishing engineering standards and integration best practices
- Providing technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams
- Prioritising and coordinating complex technical delivery
- Working closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and define technical solutions
- Contributing to an Agile,
team-oriented engineering environment
- Troubleshooting complex platform and infrastructure issues
- Providing high-level technical advice and recommendations
About you We are looking for an experienced Principal, Lead or Senior-level engineer with strong hands-on cloud and platform engineering capability.
You will ideally bring
- Extensive hands-on experience designing and managing AWS infrastructure and services
- Strong experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
- Deep experience with Kubernetes, Docker and container orchestration
- Strong knowledge of DevOps and continuous delivery practices
- Experience with tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Artifactory and Jira
- Strong knowledge of Git and version control
- Hands-on programming or scripting experience, ideally across Python, JavaScript and/or Golang
- Experience designing and supporting complex CI/CD pipelines
- Strong understanding of cloud networking and infrastructure
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments
- The ability to provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Experience with any of the following would also be highly regarded:
- PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Microsoft Azure
- HashiCorp Vault
- Cloud networking and security
- Multi-cloud environments
