Role focus: The Right to Information and Privacy team within the department is responsible for managing and administering the department’s compliance with the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) (RTI Act) and Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act) with reference to all relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities:

- Provide advice and support to departmental officers, and members of the public on the RTI Act, IP Act, and other access practices and procedures.
- Manage RTI and privacy matters, including requests for legislative and non-legislative access to departmental information and documents, such as subpoenas, non-party disclosures, and requests under the Public Sector Regulation 2023 (Qld).
- Exercise decision making powers under the RTI and IP Act as delegated. Document decisions in a manner which is transparent and comprehensive, whilst being succinct and meeting the requirements of high quality statement of reasons.
- Contribute to the development and review of policies and procedures relating to the RTI Act, IP Act and other relevant legislation, recommending and implementing improvements to ensure best practice.
- Promote awareness and compliance with RTI Act, IP Act and privacy principles by developing and delivering training, guidance materials, and tools to departmental staff.
- Conduct and support Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), identifying privacy risks,



and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Providing advice on privacy issues affecting the department, assist with responses to privacy complaints and privacy data breaches under the Mandatory Notification Data Breach scheme, and be accountable for the departmental management of external involvement in privacy with other government agencies.
- Foster and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Office of the Information Commissioner, to ensure effective collaboration and compliance

Experience:

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (or equivalent), including the ability to interpret and apply legislation and decision-making processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, conducting risk assessments. Specific knowledge of, and experience in, conducting Privacy Impact Assessments would be highly regarded.
- Ability to communicate the application of RTI and privacy principles in simple terms, including developing and delivering training.
- Skills and ability to manage competing priorities, deliver quality work outcomes and ensure legislative needs are achieved within scheduled scope and timeframe.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex privacy principles in simple terms and deliver effective training to a variety of audiences.
