Job Overview:
We are seeking a customer-focused Project Manager with engineering expertise to lead the delivery of complex defence projects. In this role, you will be responsible for managing technical teams and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with stringent defence and regulatory requirements. You will act as a key liaison between the organisation, the client (typically government or prime contractors), and internal stakeholders, driving successful project outcomes while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary interface with defence clients, understanding mission-critical requirements and translating them into project objectives and deliverables.
- Plan, initiate, and manage engineering projects across the full lifecycle.
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables that align with business objectives and client requirements.
- Develop detailed project schedules, allocate resources, and track progress against milestones.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams across engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality assurance to deliver integrated solutions.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and issues.
- Ensure projects comply with engineering standards,
quality guidelines, safety regulations, and contractual requirements.
- Manage project budgets, procurement, and cost control, ensuring financial accountability.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and implement contingency plans where necessary.
- Facilitate post-project reviews and client feedback loops to support continuous improvement and future capability development.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or related discipline).
- 3+ years of project management experience in an engineering or technical environment.
- Strong understanding of engineering processes, design principles, and manufacturing workflows.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deliver results under pressure.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance.
