What you will do as the Public Information Officer
- Handle initial phone and written contacts from consumers and businesses and provide information about their rights and obligations under the laws we enforce.
- Identify potentially concerning reports against the priorities and factors set out in the ACCC’s Compliance and Enforcement Policy for further consideration.
- Complete assessments, make referrals and liaise with internal stakeholders.
- Apply documented guidelines and procedures, record information in the ACCC’s database and engage with internal people.
- Undertake research tasks and participate in other ad hoc project and administrative work as required.
In addition to the above, the Senior Public Information Officer will:
- Have an understanding of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (or the ability to attain such knowledge quickly).
- Undertake work of moderate complexity that is technical and/or sensitive in nature.
- Assist with training and on-boarding new team members.
- Provide guidance and support to Public Information Officers and their peers, including how to apply documented guidelines and procedures.
About you In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
- Strong oral and written communication skills to deal politely and tactfully with the public, and represent the ACCC in a skilled manner.
- The capacity to gather, refine and analyse data and to undertake basic research in line with guidance.
- An ability to work in a scheduled environment and contribute positively to priorities and objectives.
- The ability to work flexibly, collaborate effectively and contribute positively as part of a team.
Additionally, the Senior Public Information Officer will also require:
- An understanding of the ACCC’s role, purpose and objectives, and the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (or the ability to attain such knowledge quickly).
- A demonstrated ability to support junior team members in the workplace, including providing training and guidance.

Salary:
APS3 $74,808 - $80,747 (plus 15.4% superannuation)
APS4 $83,383 - $90,535 (plus 15.4% superannuation)
