Walcha Council is seeking a motivated and qualified Ranger and Compliance Officer to join our team.

About the Role

This is a diverse and rewarding role that contributes to community safety, environmental protection, public health and community amenity. Reporting to the Senior Manager Strategic Planning and Environment, you will undertake a broad range of regulatory, compliance, education and enforcement activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

- Provide ranger services and administer the provisions of the Companion Animals Act 1998, including the care and detention of stray animals
- Assist with other compliance activities including, but not limited to, biosecurity, public health, food premises, on-site sewerage management and aerodrome safety inspections where required
- Develop and deliver community education campaigns, including those related to companion animals, parking, and illegal dumping
- Manage matters relating to impounded animals, stray stock, abandoned vehicle and footway obstructions
- Participate in a cross-Council on call coverage program, including providing ranger services to Uralla Shire Council

What You’ll Bring

- Tertiary qualifications in Local Government (Regulatory Services) at Certificate IV or above OR equivalent or substantial progress towards attainment
- Demonstrated experience in a regulatory/enforcement role, preferably within a Local Government environment
- Demonstrates high level communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable acts,



regulations, codes of practice and Australian standards; including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local, Government Act 1993, and Companion Animals Act 1998

What We Offer This is a Permanent Full-Time position (38hours per week) starting at $1,679.70 (gross) + superannuation per week based on Band 2 Level 3, Grade 6 of the Local Government (State) Award 2026.
