Spanos IGA is seeking an experienced and passionate Delicatessen & Bakery Specialist to support and develop our Deli and Bakery departments across three Gold Coast supermarkets.

This is a key multi-site leadership role for an experienced fresh-food retail professional who understands how to build outstanding departments through strong people leadership, product quality, presentation, range, availability and commercial performance.

Working closely with Store Managers, Department Managers and our senior leadership team, you will provide hands-on support, coaching and direction to ensure our Deli and Bakery departments consistently deliver exceptional standards for our customers.

n

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the shop floor, developing teams, improving department standards and identifying opportunities to grow sales and profitability.

Key responsibilities

n

Provide hands-on leadership and operational support across Deli and Bakery departments in three Gold Coast supermarkets

n

Coach, mentor and develop Deli and Bakery Managers and their teams

n

Establish and maintain consistently high standards of product quality, freshness, presentation and customer service

n

Drive department sales, gross profit, productivity and profitability

n

Identify opportunities to grow sales through improved range, merchandising, displays, promotions and seasonal activity

n

Review product ranges and introduce new products and categories that meet changing customer needs

n

Improve production planning, stock management, availability and forecasting

n

Manage and reduce waste, markdowns, shrinkage and unnecessary production costs

n

Ensure appropriate stock rotation and freshness standards are maintained

n

Review department layouts, merchandising standards and promotional displays

n

Develop and implement consistent operating standards across all three stores

n

Support department managers with recruitment, training, rostering and performance management

n

Build team capability through structured training and ongoing coaching

n





Ensure strong execution of promotional programs and key trading events

n

Work with suppliers to identify product, range, promotional and commercial opportunities

n

Monitor department performance and implement clear action plans where improvement is required

n

Maintain strict food safety, hygiene, cleaning and workplace health and safety standards

n

Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and all relevant legislative requirements

n

Partner with Store Managers and senior management to continuously improve our overall fresh-food offer

What we're looking for

n

We are looking for an experienced fresh-food retailer who understands what makes a great Deli and Bakery department.

n

The successful candidate will ideally have:

n

Significant experience managing or overseeing Delicatessen, Bakery or Fresh Food departments within supermarkets or food retail

n

Experience operating in a Department Manager, Fresh Food Manager, Area Manager, Specialist or multi-site role

n

Strong knowledge of Deli and Bakery operations, products and production processes

n

A strong commercial understanding of sales, gross profit, labour, waste, stock management and productivity

n

A proven ability to improve department standards and financial performance

n

Strong merchandising and product presentation skills

n

Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements

n

Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate and develop department managers and team members

n

Strong communication and relationship-building skills

n

A hands-on leadership style and willingness to work alongside teams on the shop floor

n

Solid organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities across multiple locations

n

A genuine passion for fresh food, retail and delivering an outstanding customer experience

n

Flexibility to work across our Gold Coast supermarkets and support key trading periods when required

n





Relevant food-handling qualifications or willingness to obtain required certifications

n
