This is more than a nursing job.

Marthakal Homelands Health Service is looking for Registered Nurses who want to practise differently.

We are a mobile primary health service working across some of the most remote Homelands in East Arnhem Land. Our nurses travel by road, air and boat to work alongside Yolŋu families on their Country.

But we are not simply delivering a clinic service in a remote location.

We are building a different model of health.

Marthakal Homelands Resource Centre is implementing a long-term, Yolŋu-led Master Planning Strategy that starts with a simple idea:

Healthy people need healthy places to live.

That means health cannot be separated from housing, clean water, working showers and toilets, washing clothes, nutritious food, reliable power, transport, strong culture, Country, family and meaningful work.

Our Registered Nurses are part of that bigger picture.

Nursing where health actually happens

As a Marthakal nurse, your workplace might be a clinic one day and a Homeland hundreds of kilometres away the next.

You will provide high-quality primary health care, but you will also work alongside Aboriginal Health Practitioners and Workers, Yolŋu leaders, Homelands staff, housing and maintenance teams, Rangers and other partners to address the things that are driving poor health.

This is nursing that asks not only:

“How do we treat this illness?”

but also:

“What needs to change so this person, family and Homeland can stay healthy?”

The Marthakal approach brings together the Nine Healthy Living Practices, the Social Determinants of Health, strong primary health care and Yolŋu knowledge and authority.

What you will do

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering mobile primary health care across the Marthakal Homelands. Your work will include:

- comprehensive primary health care and clinical assessment;




- chronic disease prevention, management and follow-up;
- child, family and preventative health;
- communicable disease prevention and treatment;
- skin health, hygiene and environmental health initiatives;
- health promotion and education;
- outreach and continuity of care across dispersed Homelands;
- emergency assessment, stabilisation and appropriate escalation;
- working closely with Aboriginal Health Practitioners and Yolŋu community members;
- contributing to practical Healthy Living initiatives involving housing, water, sanitation, food, infrastructure and environmental health;
- supporting quality improvement, clinical governance and service development; and
- helping build a strong, respectful and sustainable model of care for the future.

Who we are looking for We want clinically capable nurses, but technical skills alone are not enough.

We are looking for people who are curious, respectful and comfortable working in a place where relationships matter.

You will need to be prepared to listen before acting, work across cultures, share knowledge, learn from Yolŋu colleagues and recognise that community knowledge is as important to successful health care as clinical expertise.

Remote Area Nursing or Aboriginal health experience will be highly regarded, but we are also interested in experienced Registered Nurses from primary health, emergency, community, chronic disease, child and family health or other relevant backgrounds who are ready to take the next step.

You will require current AHPRA registration and the ability to meet relevant Northern Territory employment, Working with Children, criminal history and driver's licence requirements.

The package

Current Marthakal Remote Area Nurse recruitment offers a competitive remuneration package in the range of $120,000–$130,000 per annum, together with remote-area benefits, housing support and relocation assistance, including potential eligibility for relocation and wellbeing support.
