Position Overview

As a Retail Staff Member at The Biltong Boss, your role is to provide friendly, efficient customer service while maintaining a clean, well-presented and welcoming store.

You will help customers choose products, prepare and package biltong and other products, process sales, restock displays and contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the store.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

- Greet and acknowledge customers in a friendly and welcoming manner.
- Assist customers with product selections and recommendations.
- Develop a good understanding of our products so you can confidently answer customer questions.
- Offer customers samples where appropriate and encourage them to try different products.
- Provide fast, friendly and professional service at all times.
- Help create a positive experience that encourages customers to return.

Sales & Point of Sale
- Accurately process purchases using the POS system.
- Handle cash and card transactions responsibly.
- Weigh, slice, package and label products accurately.
- Be proactive in recommending products and identifying opportunities to increase sales without being pushy.
- Follow all store procedures relating to discounts, refunds and transactions.

Product Preparation & Stock
- Slice and prepare biltong according to store standards and customer requests.
- Keep product displays full, organised and visually appealing.
- Restock products, packaging and supplies as required.




- Rotate stock correctly and monitor product quality and freshness.
- Notify the manager when stock or supplies are running low.

Cleaning & Food Safety
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the store.
- Regularly clean benches, slicers, utensils, scales, display areas and other equipment.
- Follow all food handling, hygiene and food safety procedures.
- Keep floors, counters and customer-facing areas clean and tidy.
- Complete opening and closing cleaning duties as required.

Expectations All team members are expected to:
- Arrive on time and be ready to work at the beginning of their shift.
- Be reliable and attend all rostered shifts unless prior arrangements have been made.
- Present themselves in a clean, neat and skilled manner.
- Maintain a positive and helpful attitude toward customers and other team members.
- Take initiative rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done.
- Treat customers, colleagues and management with respect.
- Follow instructions, store procedures and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Take pride in the presentation of the store and the quality of every product handed to a customer.
- Communicate any problems, customer complaints, stock issues or equipment concerns to the manager promptly.

What Good Performance Looks Like A great Retail Staff Member is friendly, reliable, proactive and attentive. When the store is quiet, there is always something productive that can be done: cleaning, restocking, organising, checking displays or preparing for the next customer.
