This is a 4 month fixed term, full-time position commencing as soon as possible with possible extension (6 months) and/or permanency

The Role

As the Education Assistant – Auslan, you will interpret all that is said in and outside the classroom setting and assist communicative needs of Deaf or Hard of Hearing students using Australian Sign (Auslan). You will also need to orally interpret when a Deaf or Hard of Hearing student uses sign language to address the class, when working in a small group, when communicating with another individual student, or teacher. Ahead of lessons, you will ideally pre-read appropriate notes such as lesson notes.

In addition to these duties listed above, and Education Assistant (Auslan) may be required to undertake the generic duties of an Education Assistant where the Deaf of Hard of Hearing student is absent.

The Education Assistant – Auslan should ideally have experience in assisting with the communicative needs of Deaf or Hard of Hearing students using Australian Sign Language (AUSLAN). Strong teamwork skills are highly desirable.

Eligibility

To work with us, you must:

- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
