About The Company The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) was established on 6 July 1995 as an independent statutory authority. CASA's primary function is to conduct the safety regulation of civil air operations in Australia and the operation of Australian aircraft overseas, and to provide comprehensive safety education and training programmes.
The Role The CASA Senior Data Governance Officer plays a critical role in strengthening the governance, clarity and accountability of organisational data to support CASA's safety oversight, regulatory decision making, risk management, assurance activities and reporting obligations. Operating within the Safety, Risk and Intelligence Branch, the Senior Data Governance Officer is responsible for establishing, maintaining and embedding effective data governance arrangements across key systems and datasets.
Brisbane preferred, all CASA locations considered. Candidate may work from home averaging up to 50% of their working hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain CASA's data governance framework, including data ownership, stewardship, decision-rights and escalation pathways
- Establish and maintain clear data ownership and stewardship arrangements across key datasets and systems
- Develop, maintain and govern enterprise data definitions, data dictionaries, metadata and lineage artefacts
- Support governance forums (including the Data Council) and decision-making processes related to data, information and system changes
- Provide advice on data governance implications associated with new systems,
enhancements, migrations or changes to data collections
- Collaborate with Senior Data Quality Officers to ensure governance arrangements support effective data quality monitoring and remediation
- Prepare high-quality briefing material, reports and analysis products for Executives and governance forums
- Assist with assurance, audit and compliance activities as required
- Build workforce capability and foster a collaborative team setting through coaching and mentoring staff
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in data governance, information management, analytics, risk or a related discipline in a complex organisational environment
- Sound understanding of data governance principles, including data ownership, stewardship, metadata and decision-rights
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify governance gaps, risks and improvement opportunities
- Tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience, in information management, data, business, risk, governance, ICT or a related discipline
Desirable
- Experience in a regulatory, safety-critical, government or critical infrastructure context
- Training or certification in data governance or data management frameworks (e.g. DAMA-DMBOK)
- Experience supporting audit, assurance or compliance activities
Eligibility Requirements
- Must undergo pre-employment screening including a police record check
- Must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain the required level of security clearance
