About the role

You are an experienced electrical power engineering design engineer. Instead of your judgement shaping one project at a time, here it shapes the software that thousands of engineers in 50+ countries use to do their designs.

ELEK Software is hiring a Senior Electrical Power Engineer to be a senior technical authority on our engineering team, trusted with the calculations and engineering methods at the heart of our products (http://www.elek.com).

This is not a consulting or contracting role. No timesheets, no billable-hour targets, no cookie-cutter electrical designs. You will take the standards and hard-won design experience you already have and turn them into validated, world-class engineering software.

Programming experience is a bonus, not a requirement. Our software engineering team builds the software; your value is your electrical engineering depth and design judgement.

This is a senior position with scope to grow into technical leadership.

Duties/responsibilities

- Own the correctness, accuracy, and quality of the electrical power engineering calculations in the products you work on.
- Translate international standards, including IEC and IEEE, into clear software requirements and validated engineering logic.
- Mentor and technically guide other engineers on the team, and review their engineering work.
- Set the standard for how engineering methods are verified, validated, and documented.
- Work closely with the software engineering team so domain logic is implemented faithfully and robustly.
- Provide senior domain expertise to the product managers across the product lines.
- Contribute to applied R&D; alongside our research team.
- Produce and review technical documentation, validation material, and technical publications.
- Support customers on complex technical questions where deep engineering judgement is needed.

Required Skills





- Electrical Engineering degree.
- Solid experience (around 7+ years) as a practising electrical power design engineer.
- Chartered status (CPEng, or equivalent professional registration) is highly regarded.
- Deep, practical knowledge of power systems analysis and design, covering fault and short-circuit calculations, protection, earthing and grounding, arc flash, and power cable systems.
- Strong working command of international standards, particularly IEC and IEEE.
- The judgement to decide what "correct" means when a standard is ambiguous, and to defend that decision.
- Experience mentoring or technically guiding other engineers.
- Clear technical writing and the confidence to present to engineers and customers.
- Programming experience is welcome but not required.
