Primary objective

Provides strategic advice, support and coordination of key governance, quality assurance, risk and service management standards and processes for Skills and Pathways NT.

Context statement The Skills and Pathways NT division is responsible for building a skilled and capable Northern Territory workforce by providing leadership, resources, and strategic oversight of vocational education and training (VET). As the Northern Territory’s state training authority, Skills and Pathways NT provide stewardship of the Territory’s VET system, ensuring it meets local needs. The Office of





Skills and Pathways NT support the Executive Director, directors and staff, and is part of the department’s Offices of network.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide high level strategic advice, support and coordination for key governance, quality assurance, risk, and service

management standards and processes for Skills and Pathways.
- Coordinate and oversee briefings, action items and projects being undertaken by Skills and Pathways.
- Initiate, coordinate, research and prepare high level confidential and sensitive briefings, submissions, reports, and correspondence on a range of strategic priorities, operational policy and procedures.
- Lead and manage a high performing team of executive support for Skills and Pathways.
- Build and sustain cooperative relationships and with a variety of stakeholders including the Chief Executive and other senior departmental staff members, the Minister’s Office and other government agencies and external stakeholders
- Review, develop and, where appropriate, implement systems and processes to improve the effectiveness and responsiveness of the office.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Superior oral, written, interpersonal and negotiation skills, and the ability to build and maintain effective networks and





communicate with influence.
- Politically astute with proven capability to operate effectively in a politically sensitive environment while maintaining high standards of professionalism, ethics, departmental values, and accountability.
- Exceptional conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to discern sensitive issues and anticipate and identify risk.
- Exceptional management and coordination skills to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment and changing and competing priorities.
- Ability to perform to an exceptional standard with personal resilience, reliability, integrity, and accountability.
- Ability to implement robust monitoring and evaluation systems to identify areas for continuing improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Desirable

1. Bachelor level or post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
2. Knowledge and understanding of government and departmental processes, including preparing high level reports, discussion

papers and correspondence, including Ministerial and executive briefings.
- Contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of education and training systems and the strategic directions and objectives of the Department of Education and

Training and Northern Territory Government.
