About Us
At Alpha Archaeology, our mission is clear: we protect the past while helping build the future. For over two decades, we have delivered world-class archaeological work on complex projects alongside Traditional Owners, clients and stakeholders. We are a high-performance team that values direct communication, ownership, and collaborative success. We work hard, keep our field setting full of energy, and never lose sight of the thrill of discovery.
About the Role
If you’re an experienced archaeologist ready to take greater ownership of projects, lead teams and play a key role in complex heritage work, this is the next step for you.
In this role, you will design complex methodologies, manage large-scale site operations, and guide junior staff. You will align directly with our core pillar of "In the Trenches Together"—leading by example, taking full ownership of project timelines, and maintaining a high standard of quality assurance.
What You Will Do
- Lead & Mentor: Coordinate field teams, delegate tasks, edit technical reports, and provide constructive first-review feedback.
- CHMP Excellence: Deliver end-to-end Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs) and precise Due Diligence assessments on time and on budget.
- Proactive Communication: Act as a central point of contact for clients, crews, and regulators, embracing our approach to pick up the phone, build strong relationships, and ensure everyone knows where things stand.
- Technical Authoring: Develop defensible survey and testing methodologies,
evaluate historical potential, and write robust management conditions.
- Artefact Analysis: Apply advanced knowledge of Aboriginal stone tools to identify, catalogue, photograph, and interpret assemblages.
What You Bring
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology with Honours (or equivalent).
- Victorian Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of the AHA 2006 and AHR 2018.
- Reporting Precision: Exceptional technical writing and editing skills with a sharp eye for detail in MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Field Ready: Proven experience supervising large teams on complex projects and a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License.
- Cultural Alignment: A commitment to continuous learning, integrity, and treating history, artefacts, and communities with respect.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary package matching your expertise.
- Access to a fully maintained pooled company 4WD for all site travel.
- A supportive culture where nobody is above the work and growth is prioritised.
- A stable pipeline of diverse, high-profile Victorian infrastructure and heritage projects.
- Opportunity to have genuine influence, mentor others and contribute to team development.
If you’re an experienced archaeologist ready to take the next step in your career and have a genuine impact within a growing team, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and tell us a little about yourself and why you’d be a great fit for Alpha Archaeology.
